history*
The Bean Tree started life as a stable block in the late 18th century and gradually was developed into a residential site.
We purchased the site in 2000 and began the lengthy process of converting it into a restaurant. The inside of the building was completely gutted and renovated to create the current open plan space. A large three storey extension was added to the back of the building to allow a new cellar and kitchen to be added.
The garden area was re-laid and paved and our Indian bean tree planted. This came to us all the way from an Italian vineyard. Unusually, it was already 20 years old and so is now quite mature.
The result was a beautiful modern space which retained all the original charm of the old cottage.
Come along and see it for yourself!
